Please do join us on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 5:30 PM for the celebration of Holy Mass.Confessions will be available from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM during the recitation of the Rosary. All are welcome!Confessions are also available each Saturday from 4:00 to 4:30 PM.
SCRIPTURE
You are invited to join us each Wednesday at 10:00 AM in the parish hall for a sharing of Sacred Scripture. Presentlywe are studying the Gospel of St. Mark. Please bring along your Bible. We are now on Chapter 3 and 4 of the Gospel. As you know, Mark was not an Apostle and never actually met Our Lord. He was born into a Christian home and was a companion of Barnabus, Peter, and Paul. Markis the earliest of the Gospels; Luke and Matthew relied heavily on him in the composition of their Gospels. Thus, the Synoptic Gospels are Matthew, Mark, and Luke.
COLLECTIONS:
There are occasions when our parishioners travel during the summer months. No doubt, they attend Mass on Sunday elsewhere. A word of appreciation and thanks that on their returnto their home parish, they make up their contribution —which is very important since we are a very small parish. Thanks, also, to ourvisitors and summer parishioners for their generosity. It is my understanding that during the winter months here at OLT, our finance can be stretched considerably. So, having supported your home parish, you might think of us here on the mountain. Finally, please remember our spiritual home at the Lake where we were fed and nourished on Word and Sacrament and, in doing so, consider a remembrance in a Will or Bequest. Thank you so much for your generosity in last Sunday’s collection. The regular collection came to$4760. The Second collection for the mission in Nigeria came to$4813. You are most generous people and God bless you!.
A BIG DAY!
Next Sunday,September 5th, at 12:15 PM, let us celebrate with the Jazz Mass which, I am told, is very beautiful and reverently performed. Please plan to be there early as there will be a musical preparation for the celebration. It will also be the occasionand our honor to welcome the chief Pastor of our diocese, Bishop Calvo. He will be here to install your new priest as Pastor. Keep in mind my remarks in last Sunday’s bulletin that priests who serve thecommunity come and go; but, the Church, the faith community, is always here. Therefore, our focus always has to be on the living Person of Jesus Christ who reaches out to all of us through His Holy church in Word and Sacrament. After Mass, there will be a picnic sponsored by theMen’s Fellowship and Ladies Guild.
A MOVIE EVENING?
During the winter months, would you be interested in meeting monthly at the parish hall or the rectory to view a movie? What I am thinking is not necessarily a religious movie but something with strong, moral content.

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, AUGUST 22, 2010
LET’S CELEBRATE
DAILY MASS
On Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, the Rosary is recited at approximately 5:00 pm. Your priest is also available to celebrate the sacrament of Confession. Daily Mass is at 5:30 pm. May I encourage those of you who can to join us for the celebration. All are welcome!
THANK YOU
A little word of thanks for the beautiful flowers you sent to the church to decorate the altar for the feast of Mary’s Assumption into heaven. Please feel free to send your potted plants or flowers to the church at any time.
OUR FRIENDS IN HEAVEN
The Church embraces not only the people of God on earth but the people of God in Heaven as well. *Our friends, the saints who even though they are dead, St. Paul reminds us that the greatest bond of all—the bond of love” is not destroyed in death. The body dies but the spirit, the soul, the personality of the individual is eternal, made as we are in the image and likeness of God.This week, we celebrate the feast day of St. Rose of Lima on Monday. On Tuesday, we celebrate the feast of St. Bartholomew, Apostle. The feast of St. Louis of France is on Thursday. Two of my favorite friends in Heaven are: St. Monica, wife and mother who constantly prayed for the conversion of her husband and sons and her feast is celebrated on Friday;the following day, we have the feast of her son, St. Augustine, whosefamous quote is, “Lord, our hearts long for You and they have no rest until they rest in you.”* Let us not forget to pray for the holy souls in Purgatory—they, too, are part of the Church.
AN IMPORTANT DATE:
My dear brothers and sisters: Sunday September 5th, at the 12:15 PM Mass, Bishop Calvo will be visiting the parish as part of the installation of your new priest. Those whom the Bishop appoints as ministers of the Sacraments and the Gospel come and go but it is absolutely essential that we always see Christ Himself at the center of our parish life. God forbid we would ever focus on the personality of any individual minister. Rather, we must focus and center all of our attention on Jesus Christ who is the chief Celebrant of the Sacraments and especially the Holy Eucharist in which we find our unity and our strength. So, I invite you all to join us for the celebration associated with the event of the Jazz Mass and the installation. It will be a family event for all parishioners including visitors and is sponsored by the Men’s Fellowship & Ladies Guild. Let us be present to welcome our Bishop.
VOLUNTEERS
These men and women in various groups and organizations within the parish are owed a great debt of gratitude for their loving labor and service to the Church. Have you noticed how wonderful our Gift Shop is and how well it is stocked with quality items?Of special note is the beautiful work of the “Pine Cone Ladies” who make lovely items out of the simple and humble pinecone.Note, too, the excellent book rack that is stocked with high quality spiritual reading of every kind.

THE HOLY BIBLE It is the great book of the Catholic Church and, indeed, of all Christian people.Guided by the Holy Spirit, the church recognizes what is Scripture and what is not Scripture; thus, the Catholic Church has declared that all 73 books of both Old and New Testament is the inspired Word of God.In our understanding and interpretation of Sacred Scripture, the following is absolutely necessary. A) Common sense. B) Prayer.C) An attuned ear to the teaching and tradition of the Church, the faith community from which the Bible was produced.Join us on Wednesday at 10:00 AM in the parish hall as we continue our study of the earliest Gospel—St. Marks.
THE INTERNET Lots of good Catholic stuff is on the internet. Go to EWTN, Catholic Radio, and Vatican.com —just to mention a few of the good sites.
MY DOG CARLOW SAYS!“God is not valued at all unless He is valuedabove all.”
THE COLLECTION: This week, your financial gifts to the Lord in the regular collection came to $4100. We do thank you sincerely for your sacrificial giving for the support of the parish.A word of thanks, also, to those who gave two generous checks to help us over the winter season.Your gifts to the parish are tax deductible.Did you not like that phrase which appeared in the Gospel two weeks ago, “Make money bags for yourselves that will store up merit in Heaven where the moth cannot destroy or the robber can’t steal.” So, have you thought about remembering the parish in a will or bequest? The second collection “to mend fences” came to $1159.
TRIP TO ITALY
Speaking to Fr. Dan Hussey, Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Elko, we are both awaiting further information on ourtrip to Italy next year in September. As soon as we get this information, we will publish it in the bulletin.Between both parishes, we will be taking no more than 50 people. Needless to say, this is not an effort to make money on those pilgrims who would wish to join us on the trip.It is simply to offer you an opportunity to visit Rome, Florence, the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, and other places as well.
OUR LADY OF TAHOE CATHOLIC CHURCH THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION, AUGUST 15, 2010
COME CELEBRATE
Just a little reminder, we have daily Mass on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 5:30 PM.Before Mass, the Rosary is recited and the priest is available to celebrate with you the sacrament of Confession.Let us not neglect this great sacrament in our personal life and please remind your children and your grandchildren about going to Confession. Please do your best to join us for daily Mass on the above days.
THE WORD
Each Wednesday, we meet at the parish center to do a little study on the Holy Word of God.Presently, we are studying the Gospel ofSt. Mark.As you know, Mark wrote the earliest Gospel. Matthew and Luke relied very heavily on Mark to produce the Gospels which bear their name. These three Gospels are called, “The Synoptic Gospels” because they are so similar to each other. All the Gospels, and indeed the entire Bible, to be properly understood have to be seen in the light of the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. And, of course you know, there are73 books in the Bible —46 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.
THE ASSUMPTION
Today we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. She is the first member of the Church to share completely in the glory of her Son in the Resurrection. One day, we too will share in that victory. The Church does not say whether she died or did not die. What the Church does say, guided by the Holy Spirit is “...That at the end of her earthly life, Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven.” She, who clothed the eternal God, the second Person of the Blessed Trinity, was given the fullness of grace which one day we will all share and experience. The fact that she was assumed into Heaven is not mentioned in the Bible but it has always been part of the tradition handed down in the Church from the beginning. The doctrine of the Assumption was declared as part of the Catholic faith in 1950 as an infallible teaching.
AN IMPORTANT EVENT
We live in a most beautiful place and are part of a beautiful family here at Our Lady of Tahoe. Like all families, there are times when we go through “rough times” but we are one family, part of the mystical Body of Christ., the Church which is the sacrament, the sign of His Presence amongst us.On Sunday, September 5th, Bishop Calvo will be present to affirm our faith community at the installation of your new priest as Pastor of Our Lady of Tahoe. The event will take place at the 12:15 PM Mass with special music for the occasion. After Mass, we will have a family celebration sponsored by the Men’s Fellowship and the Ladies Guild. Please do mark it on your calendar. Even if you go to an earlier Mass, it is so important that you attend the celebration.
